Apple stock volatile premarket after rolling out UK age verification

Investing.com -- Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) shares rose 0.66% Wednesday after the company began implementing age verification measures for iPhone users in the United Kingdom.

The stock moved higher following the rollout of an iOS software update on Wednesday that introduces age checks for users. The move comes after pressure from the UK government on smartphone makers to strengthen protections for children online.

Under the new system, adults who do not verify their age will face restrictions on web browsing. Additionally, "communication safety" checks will be applied to Messages and FaceTime video calls, designed to detect nude photos and videos.

The age verification feature represents Apple's response to regulatory pressure in the UK market, where authorities have been pushing technology companies to implement stronger safeguards for younger users. The update affects iPhone users across the country and marks a significant change to how Apple's devices operate in the region.

The software update was distributed Wednesday as part of Apple's standard iOS update process. Users who choose not to verify their age will automatically be subject to the new restrictions and safety features.
