JPMorgan analyst C. Stephen Tusa, Jr upgraded Pentair (NYSE: PNR) from Overweight to Overweight with a price target of $113.00 (from $90.00).
The analyst comments "With the discovery around tariff exposure and de-escalation, the landscape is close to back to where it was before liberation day. Mechanically, recently embedded tariff-related inflation will go down, along with assumed surcharges, while the degree of stickiness on recently implemented price increases will be case by case, and assumed to be normal, and this should be. This, of course, depends on how the companies guided, but, on average, sales guidance likely goes down for most, margin guidance goes up, and most will end up raising. The question remains around demand, which is stable, with some volatility around pre-buys but seemingly immaterial for the Sector and reflected in flattish IP/capacity utilization, while capex budgets are unchanged, though there is some risk of pause in some project work as customers evaluate budgeting. We maintain our view that current demand levels in 2H will be moderately sub-seasonal given the uncertainty. The Sector has re-re-rated, and is now expensive on an absolute basis but at its average versus the S&P and we adjust PTs to reflect a higher absolute anchor multiple that reflects the move up in the S&P. We now look for companies who guided conservatively, embedding the harshest tariff reality, along with potential demand destruction in 2H, which looks less likely now, and finally the least amount of currency benefit. On the back of this, we are upgrading PNR to Overweight (from Neutral), as we see volume expectations for 2H (down 6%+) as likely too conservative, and also see price actions sticking in their channel which should combine to support upside to guide, all combined with an undemanding valuation on FCF."
