Tesla (TSLA) Shorts Get More Bad News

July 9, 2013 7:53 AM EDT
Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA) shorts have got that sick feeling in their guts Tuesday after it was announced after the close that the EV maker will take Oralce's (NASDAQ: ORCL) place in the NASDAQ-100 Index (Nasdaq: NDX) and the NASDAQ-100 Equal Weighted Index (Nasdaq: NDXE) prior to market open on Monday, July 15, 2013. Oracle is leaving the NASDAQ for the NYSE.

With 19,929,119 shares, or 31.9% of the float, held short the additional index buying could force a short squeeze.

Shares of Tesla are up 2.4% in pre-open trade and up 259% YTD... Ouch.
