Netflix (NFLX) Falls While the Market Gains

September 7, 2011 10:32 AM EDT
While the market is strong Wednesday, Netflix, Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) is notably weaker. While there is nothing specific that can explain today's move lower, there are a few things swirling around in the market:

  • Reports Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) is aggressively pursuing Hulu and may be bidding $1-$2 billion above others.
  • Rumors Dish (Nasdaq: DISH) (for its Blockbuster Streaming service) and Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) (for Amazon Prime) are pursuing Starz content after it was announced last week that contract negations between Netflix and Starz ended.
  • Hearing former Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) CEO/Chairman Richard Parsons said the stock was a short on CNBC today.
Shares of Netflix are down 1.6 percent to $215.29, but off the lows.
