American Airlines (AMR) Reports Decline in April Traffic

American Airlines (NYSE: AMR) reported an April load factor of 80.1% -- a decline of 2.0 points compared to the same period last year. Traffic decreased 6.6% year over year and capacity decreased 4.3%, driven in large part by MD-80 inspection cancellations in early April.
Domestic traffic decreased 8.4% year over year on 5.9% less capacity. International traffic decreased by 3.1% relative to last year on a capacity decrease of 1.5%. American boarded 7.5 million passengers in April.
American Eagle reported an April load factor of 70.8%-- down 3.4 points compared to the same period last year. Traffic decreased 7.6% year over year as capacity decreased 3.1%. American Eagle boarded 1.6 million passengers in April.
