ZTE Reveals Grand Prize Project CSX Winner: Eye-Tracking, Self-Adhesive Phone
Thousands of consumers from 176 countries participated in voting on the winning device, which will debut in 2017
RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ZTE USA, the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the U.S. and second largest in the no-contract market,* today announced the grand prize winner of Project CSX is the Eye-Tracking, Self-Adhesive Phone. Thousands of consumers from 176 countries participated in voting throughout the competition, from ideation through conceptualization, and in addition to the winner joining ZTE at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, consumers will see this device go to market in 2017.
“We are overwhelmed with the amount of consumer participation and positive reception to Project CSX,” said Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA. “As the first smartphone manufacturer to take on crowdsourcing its next mobile device from start to finish, we are proud of how this project pushed the envelope, and that consumers from around the world have chosen to be part of this industry-disrupting process.”
After a series of consumer voting periods to narrow down ideas and concepts, the final round of voting commenced, with consumers choosing between five devices. Ultimately, the Eye-Tracking, Self-Adhesive Phone came out as the victor, with 36% of the total vote.
The top five devices garnered the following percentage of votes:
Eye Tracking, Self-Adhesive Phone – 36%
Intelligent Smartphone Covers – 21%
Stock Android Flagship Phone – 19%
VR-Interactive Diving Mask – 16%
Powerglove – 8%
While voting for ideas and concepts is now complete, ZTE aims to keep with the spirit in which Project CSX was conceived.
“Now that the world has told us what they want ZTE to build, we are entering the product development phase of Project CSX,” stated Jeff Yee, senior vice president of technology planning & partnerships of ZTE USA. “However, the crowdsourcing element may not be completely over, as we look to continue to keep consumers at the forefront of everything we do – in this case, helping to determine the official device name to determining the product colors and more.”
