AMSTERDAM and SAN DIEGO, April 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- To continue helping organizations answer questions with data spread across disparate analytics systems, Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the big data analytics and marketing applications company, today announced a significant expansion with six new or enhanced Teradata® QueryGrid™ technologies that seamlessly orchestrate the processing of data across an analytical ecosystem.

Unique in its design, Teradata QueryGrid harnesses the power of and leverages data in multiple analytic engines with bi-directional data movement and pushdown processing for enhanced business analysis. This frees the business user to tackle complex questions with disparate data without having to manually move data, or learn a new language.
Teradata QueryGrid offers customers seamless self-service access to data and analytic processing across different systems without special tools or IT intervention. This is especially important today, as open-source technologies are becoming a major component of best-of-breed enterprise analytic environments.
"A single system cannot handle the volume and variety of data types and analytics needed to win in today's marketplace," said Hermann Wimmer, co-president, Teradata, and head of Teradata's Data and Analytics Division. "Teradata QueryGrid offers enterprises quick and simple access to all of their data and analytics to help answer critical business questions."
As a part of the expansion of existing QueryGrid capabilities, Teradata is announcing QueryGrid for Teradata-to-MapR, Teradata-to-Cloudera Distribution for Hadoop, Aster-to-Cloudera Distribution for Hadoop Also being announced is the global availability of QueryGrid for Teradata-to-Teradata, and enhancements to support the for Teradata-to-Hortonworks Data Platform. In addition, Teradata has enhanced the existing Teradata-to-Hortonworks Data Platform, and has set a date for the release of the previously announced Teradata-to-MapR.
"Teradata QueryGrid will offer our joint customers a powerful connection between the Teradata Database and the MapR Distribution of Apache™ Hadoop®," said Steve Wooledge, vice president of product marketing, MapR Technologies. "Organizations can now benefit immediately from seamless access to information across the industry's most trusted Hadoop and data warehouse platforms."
The benefit of combining data and analytics from disparate platforms, whether proprietary or open source, spans all verticals. For example, a data-driven manufacturer is seeking an edge over its competitors by producing the highest quality products with the lowest failure rate. To maximize manufacturing quality, business analysts use analytics that require the combination of fast-changing, multi-structured sensor data from products in field use, with manufacturing, operational, and customer service data. The different types of data are often stored on separate systems. Teradata QueryGrid makes it possible to easily access and perform sophisticated analytics across all the data sources. The resulting insights enable the business analyst to improve manufacturing techniques, which eliminate product failures and leads to increased sales.
"Based on customer interviews probing business use cases for Hadoop with Teradata and Aster platforms, Teradata has the proper vision for supporting enterprise analytics at scale. In particular, coming enhancements to QueryGrid will not only reduce restrictions on data placement among platforms, but also on process placement, like extending Aster analytic functions to process data on the Teradata Database," said Richard Hackathorn, president and founder of Bolder Technology, Inc.
These Teradata QueryGrid technologies are now available globally: Teradata-to-Cloudera, Aster-to- Cloudera, Teradata-to-Teradata, and Teradata-to-Hortonworks. By the end of the second quarter, the Teradata-to-Aster and Teradata-to-MapR technologies will be available.
