Jimmy Shane and the Miss HomeStreet Racing Team take 2nd place at the premier H1 Unlimited season event
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- On the heels of winning the national championship last year, Miss HomeStreet and driver Jimmy Shane opened the H1 Unlimited season today with a 2nd-place finish at Guntersville Hydrofest.
Hundreds of fans gathered on the banks of Guntersville Lake to watch the thunderboat action. If you blinked, you might have missed it – sustaining speeds of up to 200mph, the turbine-powered hydroplanes tackled the first course of the year with incredible skill and precision.
“While we’re always striving for a victory, the first race of the season feels incredible nonetheless,” said Shane. “We’re thankful for the great crowd of supporters in Guntersville who helped us kick off the season with a ton of energy. We have a long season ahead of us, and we’re already looking forward to our next race.”
Miss HomeStreet’s strong performance is a testament to the team’s incredible resilience, having spent the offseason making significant changes in the organization. Earlier this year, Cindy Shirley became the team’s crew chief – the first woman to ever hold the leadership position in the turbine-era of pro hydro racing. In addition, the team is in the middle of building a brand-new racing boat. The 3,000 horsepower machine will make its debut later this season.
The team’s next chance at victory comes early next month at the Madison Regatta Indiana Governor’s Cup in Madison, Indiana. Fans can join the team on the Ohio River July 6-8 or follow along online.
“We already have so much to be proud of this season,” Shirley said. “We put on a great show today, but we can’t wait to see what we can do with our new boat and continued support from our hometown fans in Madison.”
The Miss HomeStreet belongs to the Citizens of Madison, Indiana, the oldest continuously active team in unlimited hydroplane history. The team first took to the water in 1961 and has since taken home 30 race wins around the country. Jimmy Shane joined the team in 2014 as the 21st driver of the community-owned hydroplane.
