AUGUSTA, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Maine’s Online Boat Registration Renewal service (www.maine.gov/online/boat) has been enhanced to adjust to any size screen whether an individual is using the service on a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.
The online service has been available through the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IF&W) and Maine.gov since 2009. Over the past 7 years, the service has grown tremendously and there are now over 180 municipalities throughout the State that utilize the online renewal program. The service allows an individual to register their boat with the state of Maine and pay their local excise tax and registration fee in one seamless transaction via credit or debit card. Following the transaction, the customer will receive a temporary registration form to print for their immediate use. The official registration and stickers will arrive at the specified shipping address within 30 days.
“This service creates efficiencies for our agency, the participating municipality, and the customer,” stated Bill Swan, Director of Licensing for IF&W. “We want to make this service as accessible as we can, and now that we are seeing more than 50% of web traffic coming from a mobile device or tablet, this was necessary to help us accomplish that goal.”
The Boat Registration Renewal service is available only to registrants who have previously registered their boat in a participating municipality, continue to live in or dock their boat in that town/city, and are required to pay excise tax.
The online service was developed at no cost to Maine taxpayers and was created by Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, in partnership with the state’s eGovernment portal provider, InforME.
