Harvard University Wins Second Annual Point72 Asset Management Case Competition

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Point72 Asset Management L.P. (Point72) announced a team from Harvard University has won its second annual Case Competition.

Duke University took second place, with University of Pennsylvania, SUNY Binghamton, and University of Michigan following in third, fourth, and fifth. Each team received cash prizes for their successful performances.

The winning Harvard University team consisted of:

  • Geoffrey Kristof
  • Jamie Beaton
  • Chambers Loomis

The Point72 Case Competition provides teams of college sophomores and juniors the opportunity to simulate the research investment professionals conduct in their daily professional lives. Teams were asked to perform extensive industry and ticker-specific analysis in order to prepare an investment recommendation on a publicly traded company in the airline industry.

“We congratulate the Harvard team on their outstanding work,” said Jessica Anderson, Point72’s head of Investment Talent Development. “We were very impressed with the research, presentations, and creative thinking we saw from all of the finalists in this competition.”

The top five teams shared over $25,000 in prize money. Top finishers will also receive accelerated consideration for interviews for a position as a Point72 Academy Summer Analyst. Teams that placed sixth through tenth will receive live feedback from Point72 investment professionals.

“Between calls with analysts at the Firm to assist in our pitch development, insightful questions from judges that forced us to test our thesis, and valuable insight into the investment process, the experience was fantastic and educational,” said Mr. Beaton, a member of the Harvard team. “It was also a pleasure to meet other students with the same passion for equity investing. This was definitely one of the best pitch competitions we have attended.”

The Point72 Academy is a highly selective and rigorous training program that teaches recent college graduates to master the financial analysis and research skills necessary to contribute to investment recommendations. The Academy’s 10-week Summer Analyst program helps undergraduate rising seniors develop skills that are fundamental to the Firm’s investment process. Point72 Investment Professionals and external subject matter experts develop and teach Summer Analysts to create and refine financial models, conduct primary and industry-specific research, prepare stock recommendations, and complete projects.
