Warren Buffett may be hungry for more M&A in the financial sector as rules and regulations begin to tighten up.
According to reports, Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-A)-backed lender and servicer Berkadia Commercial Mortgage may look to make strategic acquisitions has Basel III rules begin to be implemented, which could create unique opportunities to acquire financial assets from distressed firms.
Berkadia was created by an acquisition of Capmark Financial Group by Berkshire and Leucadia National Corp. (NYSE: LUK) in 2009. The firm recently announced the hiring of Randy Jenson as Chief Financial Officer, whose duties include an "important" role in M&A. Jenson was a former CEO of banking and lending at Leucadia.
Though no specific deals have been announced yet, Berkadia began issuing loans for inclusion in mortgage bonds in 2010.
