Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) appointed Loree Elswick as president of the Duke Energy Foundation, the company announced November 18.

"Loree's appointment comes at a pivotal moment for our communities," said Pepper Natonski, senior vice president of federal affairs, sustainability, and philanthropy at Duke Energy. "As we work to meet the growing energy needs of our customers while keeping costs as low as possible, the Foundation's role in strengthening the places we call home has never been more important."

Before joining Duke Energy, Elswick worked in public affairs and nonprofit leadership. She started her new role November 1 and will remain in Charlotte.

"I'm honored to step into this role and continue building strong, resilient communities across our service areas," Elswick said. "Philanthropy is not just a function-it's a passion."

The Duke Energy Foundation has operated for more than 40 years and provides more than $30 million annually in philanthropic support. Over the past 10 years, the foundation has invested more than $280 million into communities. Duke Energy volunteers donate nearly $4 million in time to nonprofits annually.

The foundation is funded by Duke Energy shareholders and serves communities where the utility's customers live and work. Duke Energy's electric utilities serve 8.6 million customers across six states, while its natural gas utilities serve 1.7 million customers across five states.
