Financial technology company Capitolis appointed Okan Pekin as president, according to a company announcement. Pekin will be based in London and report to Chief Executive Officer Gil Mandelzis.
Pekin brings over 35 years of financial services experience from Citigroup (NYSE: C), where he most recently served as Global Head of Securities Services until his retirement in April. In that role, he oversaw a $5 billion global business. His previous positions at Citi included leading Equity Prime Finance, Futures & Clearing, and FX Prime Brokerage.
Pekin has served on Capitolis' board for five years as Citi's representative. The appointment follows other recent executive hires at the company, including Richard Schiffman as Chief Product Officer, Amol Naik as Chief Operating Officer, and Melanie Carucci as Global Head of Sales.
"With that growth comes complexity across our business, products, clients, and delivery, and getting this right is critical to maximizing our potential," said Mandelzis in the announcement.
Capitolis has recently launched new products, expanded its client network, and secured strategic investments from banks including Barclays, BNP Paribas, and J.P. Morgan. The company also acquired BGC Group's compression optimization business Capitalab.
Founded in 2017, Capitolis develops technology solutions for financial markets and is backed by venture capital firms and global banks. The company has received recognition on various industry lists, including CNBC's World's Top Fintech Companies list for three consecutive years.
