Akari Therapeutics Plc (NASDAQ: AKTX) appointed Kameel D. Farag as interim chief financial officer, the oncology biotechnology company announced. Farag joined the company last month.
Farag previously served as chief financial officer and head of business operations at Aspen Neuroscience, where he oversaw a tripling of headcount and secured more than $150 million in financing. Before Aspen, he worked as senior vice president of finance at Ionis Pharmaceuticals, supporting the company's revenue and profitability growth while building finance infrastructure for over $1 billion in revenue.
Earlier in his career, Farag spent more than 16 years at Amgen in positions of increasing leadership, including heading finance for international regions. He holds a bachelor's degree in business and economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
"His deep experience across corporate finance, M&A, and operational build-outs will be instrumental as we accelerate development of our novel ADC platform and advance our lead asset toward the clinic," said Abizer Gaslightwala, president and chief executive officer of Akari Therapeutics.
Akari Therapeutics develops antibody drug conjugates for oncology applications. The company's lead asset, AKTX-101, uses a payload called PH1 that modulates RNA splicing within cancer cells, differing from traditional ADCs that use tubulin inhibitors and DNA damaging agents.
The information is based on a company press release.
