InterDigital Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC) received another injunction against Disney from a German court, the company announced February 13. The Munich Regional Court ruled that InterDigital is entitled to an injunction over Disney's infringement of a patent related to HEVC compression technology.
Disney can appeal the decision, according to the press release.
This marks the fifth injunction InterDigital has obtained against Disney for intellectual property infringement. Previous injunctions were issued by courts in Germany and Brazil concerning patents related to HDR technology, dynamic overlaying of video streams, and additional HEVC and AVC compression technologies.
"As an early pioneer in video compression technology, InterDigital's innovation has helped Disney to build a highly profitable streaming business," said Josh Schmidt, Chief Legal Officer at InterDigital. "With this latest injunction, it is clearly time for Disney to sign an agreement that appropriately values our innovation."
InterDigital is a research and development company focused on wireless, video, and artificial intelligence technologies. The company licenses its innovations to manufacturers of wireless devices, consumer electronics, and providers of cloud-based services including video streaming platforms.
