Globus Medical, Inc. (NYSE: GMED) announced that a Delaware jury ruled in its favor in patent infringement litigation against Life Spine, Inc.
The jury determined that Life Spine's Prolift family of implants infringed several claims of a Globus patent and awarded the company both lost profits and reasonable royalty damages. The disputed technology involves expandable spinal fusion implants used in spinal surgery procedures.
"We are pleased with the jury's decision, which affirms the strength of our intellectual property and the groundbreaking innovation behind our expandable implant technologies," said Keith Pfeil, President and Chief Executive Officer.
Globus Medical has another patent infringement case pending against Alphatec, Inc. involving expandable implant and retractor technology. The company stated it remains committed to protecting its intellectual property rights.
"We will not hesitate to enforce our patent rights against those who attempt to use our technology without authorization," said Kelly Huller, Executive Vice President and General Counsel.
The Pennsylvania-based company develops musculoskeletal technology and operates in spine, orthopedic trauma, joint reconstruction, biomaterials and enabling technologies sectors.
