September 4, 2025 7:00 AM EDT

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. (NYSE: CLF) announced that United States Steel Corporation, Nippon Steel Corporation, and Nippon Steel North America Inc. voluntarily dismissed their lawsuit against the company on September 3, 2025.

The lawsuit, originally filed on January 6, 2025, named Cleveland-Cliffs, its Chairman and CEO Lourenco Goncalves, and United Steelworkers International President David McCall as defendants. The dismissal was made with prejudice, meaning the case cannot be refiled.

The settlement agreement provided for full release of all defendants and involved no exchange of financial consideration between the parties. Other terms of the settlement remain confidential, according to the company's statement.

"This outcome speaks for itself. The case has been dismissed with prejudice, there was no financial consideration exchanged, and all claims have been released," Goncalves stated.

Cleveland-Cliffs describes itself as a North America-based steel producer focused on value-added sheet products, particularly for the automotive industry. The company operates as a vertically integrated steelmaker, from iron ore mining through finished steel products, and employs approximately 30,000 people across operations in the United States and Canada.
