Investing.com -- Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell declined to address questions about his future at the central bank and potential legal matters during a press conference on Wednesday.
When asked whether he would remain at the Fed after his term as chair expires in May, Powell avoided a direct answer. His term as a Fed governor extends until 2028, beyond his chairmanship.
"There’s a time and place for these questions," Powell stated, adding that it was "not something I’m going to be getting into today."
Powell also refused to confirm whether the Federal Reserve had responded to Department of Justice subpoenas regarding renovation work at the central bank. When pressed on this legal investigation, he simply responded, "I have nothing for you on that today."
The Fed Chair similarly declined to expand on a January 11 statement when questioned about it during the press conference. He also maintained the Fed’s traditional stance of not commenting on the dollar
