Investing.com -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a safety investigation into 1.27 million Ford F-150 pickup trucks, the agency announced Monday.
The probe follows reports that the vehicles experience unexpected transmission downshifts without warning or driver input. These incidents are often accompanied by a temporary rear-wheel lockup, according to the NHTSA.
The safety regulator did not provide details about any accidents or injuries potentially linked to the transmission issue, nor did it specify which model years of the F-150 are included in the investigation.
