Meta names Shengija Zhao as Chief Scientist of Superintelligence Labs

Investing.com -- Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) has appointed Shengija Zhao as Chief Scientist of Meta Superintelligence Labs, according to an announcement from CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Friday.

In this new role, Zhao will establish the research agenda and scientific direction for the lab, working directly with Zuckerberg and Alexandr Wang. Zhao co-founded the lab and has served as lead scientist since its inception.

"Shengija has already pioneered several breakthroughs, including a new scaling paradigm, and distinguished himself as a leader in the field," Zuckerberg said in his announcement.

The formalization of Zhao's leadership position comes as Meta reports successful recruitment efforts and team building for the AI division.

Meta Superintelligence Labs was created to advance Meta's position in artificial intelligence development. The company has assembled talent by recruiting researchers from competitors including OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. Meta also acquired Scale AI, bringing in Wang to lead the group.

Zuckerberg expressed optimism about the lab's future, stating: "Together we are building an elite, talent-dense team that has the resources and long-term focus to push the frontiers of superintelligence research. The next few years are going to be very exciting."
