Investing.com -- Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ: COIN) stock rose 5.6% after the cryptocurrency exchange announced its acquisition of Liquifi, a platform specializing in token ownership management, vesting schedules, and compliance workflows.
The acquisition represents Coinbase's strategic move to provide an end-to-end solution for blockchain developers by simplifying the token launch process. Liquifi's platform is already utilized by notable projects including Uniswap Foundation, OP Labs (Optimism), Ethena, Zora, and 0x for token management operations.
Coinbase stated that launching tokens today involves navigating complex legal, tax, and compliance challenges, alongside managing cap tables and vesting schedules. The company aims to integrate Liquifi's capabilities with Coinbase Prime to offer issuers comprehensive tools directly from its trading platform, while strengthening integration across custody, trading, and financing services.
The cryptocurrency exchange envisions creating an environment where launching tokens becomes "easier, faster, and more global than issuing traditional startup equity," potentially becoming "the default path for the next generation of companies."
Beyond serving developers, Coinbase noted that Liquifi will benefit employees through user-friendly token compensation plans and help investors manage token holdings with similar ease to equity investments.
This acquisition aligns with Coinbase's broader goal of bringing more than a billion people into the blockchain ecosystem by supporting the teams developing the next generation of blockchain protocols and applications.
