Tesla (TSLA) Up Following Successful Falcon 9 Launch (SCTY)

September 30, 2013 11:09 AM EDT
Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) shares are positive Monday as sentiment from CEO Elon Musk's other project hits the stock.

Over the weekend, Musk's Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) launched its Falcon 9 rocket from California. The rocket held a small Canadian science satellite called Cassiope in its nose cone.

On the launch, Musk commented to Reuters, It went better than expected. It was incredibly smooth. Musk is focused on creating a way to get the Falcon's first-stage rocket to land safely so the company can recover the motors, which are about 75 percent of the cost of a rocket.

Tesla is up 1.6 percent Monday while SolarCity (Nasdaq: SCTY), which Musk chairs, is just about flat.
