RIM (RIMM) Cuts PlayBook Price by as Much as $400

Want to grab a Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) PlayBook tablet, but always saw price as a barrier of entry for you? Keep reading.

Reports as well as RIMs own website, have the price on its PlayBook cut by as much as $400, or two Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) Kindle Fire tablets.

All of RIMs PlayBooks are now priced at $299. All. So, you could pay $299 for just 16-gigabytes of memory, but with four-times that amount available for the same price, why would you?

The sale might be happening ahead of the expected launch of it's new device and operating system.

Earlier in December, RIM said it would be taking a $485 million pretax charge due to lagging PlayBook sales.

Arguments have been made about whether the PlayBook can keep snuff with Amazon's Kindle Fire or Barnes & Noble's (NYSE: BKS) NOOK Color, but for $299, it might be worth it to grab up one just to have. Or use as an awesome coaster for your coffee table.

RIM shares are 2 percent better early Tuesday.
