No Imminent Announcement On Dow-30 Component Changes (GM, C)

April 3, 2009 1:31 PM EDT
It is pretty obvious that GM (NYSE: GM) and Citigroup (NYSE: C) need to be removed from the Dow Jones Industrial Average, or Dow-30, and there has been speculation that an announcement could come maybe as soon as today. But a spokesperson from the Dow Jones Indexes said "no announcement is imminent."

Last weekend, both GM and Citigroup were pulled from the newer and much-less-important Global Dow.

Some of the speculated names to replace GM and C have been trading higher today, in part on the talk. Some possible additions include: Visa, Inc. (NYSE: V) +7%, Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE: MA) +5%, Bank of New York Mellon (NYSE: BK) +0%, Northern Trust Corporation (Nasdaq: NTRS) +0%, Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) +1.8%, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) +3%, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) +2%.
