Microsoft (MSFT) Windows 8 Apps Surpass 20K Mark; 87% Are Free

Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) shares are ticking slightly higher Friday amid new data that the company surpassed the 20,000 level for Windows 8 apps.

According to information out yesterday, the Win 8 store was at about 20,610 apps globally. Further, about 17,958 of those apps, or approximately 87 percent, were free.

Data was conveyed via Win App Update on Twitter (account here. Microsoft is up about 0.7 percent in the early session.
