Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) Software SVP Departs for Private Equity Sector

Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) is losing one of the good ones.

According to AllThingsD, software business unit SVP and GM Ajei Gopal is said to be departing the PC giant for private equity firm Silver Lake Partners. Those familar with recent developments in private equity and tech know that Silver Lake is the main firm bidding to acquire Dell, Inc. (Nasdaq: DELL).

Gopal will be part of Silver Lake's 'Value Creation' Team and an operating partner of the firm.

As spokesperson for H-P commented, "Ajei Gopal has decided to leave HP to pursue a new venture that will enable him to be closer to his family in New York City. While the company conducts an extensive internal and external search for a new leader for the IT Management group, George Kadifa, executive vice president, HP Software, will step in as the acting leader."

Shares of H-P are flat in late trading.
