Google's (GOOG) Social Networking Site Blowing Minds Left and Right

July 22, 2011 8:02 AM EDT
Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) may have a social networking hit on its hands, even if it is still in the beta testing phase.

According to data from comScore, Google's Google+ (hereafter, G+) may have had 20 million unique visitors since its launch.

Of the total, about 5.3 million were users in the U.S., 2.85 million in India, 870,000 from the U.K., and 860,000 tapped in from Canada. Other notable countries included Brazil, Germany, Taiwan, and France.

Total time spent on G+ was recorded by comScore.

But many are impressed with the growth so far; access to G+ is still by invite only, meaning users need to know someone already using the service to gain access.

As a comparison, comScore industry analysis VP Andy Lipsman said he's never seen anything grow so quickly. The best comparison he can make is Twitter in 2009, but similar growth took place over several months -- not one.

With it's quarterly report last week, Google CEO Larry Page said G+ already had 10 million users -- still a far cry from the 750 million on Facebook and 200 million on Twitter -- but an admirable start nonetheless.
