Consumer Reports Warms Up to Apple's (AAPL) iPhone 5

We choo-choo-choose you iPhone 5!

According to a new release from Consumer Reports on Friday, the Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone 5 may have made up for "Antennagate," a gate in which antennas on prior iPhone 5s (read: iPhone 4) failed to communicate properly after consumers' oversized paws began bridging the gap on the externally-mounted signal enhancer.

CR lauded the iPhone 5s larger screen, thinner profile, lighter design, and faster wireless speeds. Kudos were also given to Siri and the updated camera.

Despite being well over 75-years-old, CR still has some clout. Back in 2010, when CR refused to recommend the iPhone 4 due to calls being dropped if the device was gripped in a certain way, then-CEO Steve Jobs held a presser to apologize and offer free cases in order to fix the issue. And Steve Jobs didn't apologize often, much less to a media publication.

The biggest problem (complaint) plaguing the iPhone 5 is Apple's map app, which CR said wasn't a big enough deal to not recommend the device.

So, if you're reading this on a new iPhone 5, you've made the right choice. If you have been on the fence about making a switch, let the CR recommendation be your guide. If you currently use a Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android tablet device for your day-to-day mobile needs... you know what you need to do.

Shares of Apple are indicated for a lower open Friday morning.
