Think one brand new iPad might be enough for one show? Think again.
According to Digitimes, Apple may unveil two new versions of its iPad tablet device at the upcoming iWorld conference, scheduled for January 26, 2012. Digitimes cites supply chain partners on the report.
With Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) putting the heat on with its Kindle Fire, Apple is likely to make the iPad 2 its direct competitor to that device. The next iPads will serve the middle- and higher-end markets.
Further, Apple might skip shrinking the screen size to 7.85-inches, opting to continue the 9.7-inch size regardless of price.
Sharp is said to be the major supplier, while Samsung and LG Display (NYSE: LPL) will also contribute.
Instead of the dual-core A5 processor used in the current iPad, sources have said Apple contracted Samsung for a quad-core A6 processor for the new iPads.
Display will have QXGA resolution (1536 X 2048 pixels), and have dual-LED light bars for better brightness. Capacity on the new batteries might be as high as 14,000-mAh, Digitimes noted.
Apple shares are trading modestly higher Thursday morning.
