A war of words is developing between Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) over two of the most popular smart phone systems on the market.
The jabs started Monday night when Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that the Android operating system from Google posed problems for consumers that have to deal with the numerous version of the open-source software.
Jobs added that Google executives were "disingenuous" calling the IOS operating system from Apple "closed."
“Google loves to characterize Android as open and iOS and iPhone as closed,” he said during Apple’s third quarter earnings call, saying that this was a ploy to hide the fragmentation of Google's software.
Google executive Andy Rubin, the founder of Android, used Twitter to send a message back to Apple with a true mastery of the geek language.
“the definition of open: ‘mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git ; repo sync ; make,’” is the message from Rubin.
The translation is loose but it essentially says that anyone can develop for, hack or create their own version of Android and that this is not the case for Apple, according to PC World.
