Apple's (AAPL) New MacBook Airs Ship Without Abobe (ADBE) Flash Installed

October 21, 2010 9:08 AM EDT
In a departure from previous models of its popular Mac computer products, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) shipped its new MacBook Air model without Flash from Adobe Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE) preloaded.

The CEOs of both companies have been exchanging shots at each others' products.

"Flash has not performed well on mobile devices," wrote Apple CEO Steve Jobs in an open letter in April."We have routinely asked Adobe to show us Flash performing well on a mobile device, any mobile device, for a few years now. We have never seen it."

Jobs said that Flash is the No. 1 cause of crashes on Mac computers, as he defends the lack of support for the software on the iPhone and iPad.

Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen responded by calling the comments form Jobs a "smokescreen" and that the problem lies with the operating system on the Mac computers.
