Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is (somewhat) countering Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) news over the weekend of a lowered price in its NOOK Simple Touch heading into the holidays.
Today only, Amazon is taking $50 off of its Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch line of tablets.
According to the company website, the Wifi only model will sell for $249, from $299 prior. The 4G LTE version will go starting at $449 each.
Barnes & Noble trimmed the price of its NOOK Simple Touch 20 percent to $79. The Simple Touch and Fire HD tablets aren't exactly competitors, but highlights increased competition within the tablet-o-sphere.
Buyers of the Fire HD line can get the discount by entering FIREHD89 at checkout on Amazon.com.
Shares of Amazon are indicated lower, while Barnes & Noble is looking for a stronger start Monday.
