Amazon.com's (Nasdaq: AMZN) recently announced Kindle Fire HD shipments should hit the five million mark in the second-half of 2012, if Digitimes has anything to say about it.
There are two versions of the Fire HD, a 7-inch and 8.9-inch display sizes. Digitimes sees shipments for the smaller version at 500,000 units in September, one million in October, and 2.9 million for the year.
On the larger version, Digitimes thinks shipments will reach a total of about 2.2 million units. For the life of the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD, Digitimes is modeling 3.5 million to 4 million total shipments, which is a little gloomy given that Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) sells about 15 million iPads per quarter.
Shares of Amazon are up slightly in early trading.
