Canadian National Railway Co. (NYSE: CNI) moved 3.4 million metric tonnes of grain from Western Canada in October, establishing a new monthly record for the company. The volume exceeded the previous October record by 110,000 metric tonnes and represents the highest single-month grain movement in the company's history.
"At CN, our customers count on us to deliver, and our team of railroaders continues to meet that challenge. This performance shows what's possible with good customer collaboration, thoughtful planning and strong execution," said Janet Drysdale, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer at CN.
The Montreal-based railway company announced the record on Tuesday, according to a press release statement. CN operates a network spanning nearly 20,000 miles across North America and transports more than 300 million tons of materials annually.
The company stated it continues to implement its winter operations plan as colder weather approaches across its network.
