Trump says Kirk shooting suspect in custody
Investing.com -- President Donald Trump said Friday that the suspect in the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is in custody.
"We have Kirk suspect in custody," Trump said during an interview with Fox News. "With high degree of certainty we have Kirk suspect."
Trump indicated that someone close to the suspect turned him in, and that a minister and the suspect’s father were involved in the capture.
"They’re going to announce it today," Trump said, adding that the suspect is currently at police headquarters.
Kirk, who co-founded Turning Point USA, died Wednesday after being shot at an event at Utah Valley University.
Trump, who said he had just learned about the suspect’s capture as he walked into the Fox interview, expressed his hope that the shooter would be found guilty and receive the death penalty.
The president also stated that the shooting appears to be "a one-off" incident and not part of a larger network.
