Madoff Son Found Dead From Apparent Suicide
Bernard Madoff's eldest son Mark Madoff, 46, was found dead of an apparent suicide today in his SoHo apartment. It was the two year anniversary of father's arrest in one of the greatest Ponzi scheme ever.
"Mark Madoff took his own life today. This is a terrible and unnecessary tragedy," his lawyer, Martin Flumenbaum, said.
His body was found hanging from a noose made out of a dog leash in his living room. The father of Mark Madoff's wife, Stephanie, found him after a communication from her husband suggesting that someone should check on their two-year-old child, who was also in the apartment but found safely sleeping. Stephanie was in Florida at the time.
Mark Madoff and his brother, Andrew, were under investigation but hadn't yet faced criminal charges in the massive fraud.
