Amazon halts Blue Jay robot project months after launch
Investing.com -- Amazon has stopped development of its Blue Jay robot, just months after introducing the multi-armed robotic system for same-day delivery warehouses.
The project, which was launched in October, was quietly shut down in January, according to Business Insider, citing people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified discussing private information. Many employees who worked on Blue Jay have been reassigned to other robotics initiatives within the company.
The cancellation comes as Amazon shifts its warehouse technology strategy amid challenges with the Blue Jay system, which reportedly faced high costs and complexities. The company is now refocusing its efforts on its "Orbital" system, which aims to create modular, scalable same-day delivery capabilities in smaller warehouses.
