W.R. Berkley (WRB) Tops Q3 EPS by 16c

W.R. Berkley (NYSE: WRB) reported Q3 EPS of $1.06, $0.16 better than the analyst estimate of $0.90. Revenue for the quarter came in at $1.84 billion versus the consensus estimate of $1.74 billion.

hird quarter highlights included:

• Net premiums written grew 7.1%.
• Return on equity was 17.4%.
• GAAP combined ratio improved to 93.5%.
• Net investment gains were $72 million.
• Book value per share was up 13.1% since December 31, 2013.
