The Progressive Corporation (NYSE: PGR) reported October 2025 financial results, showing net income of $846 million compared to $408 million in October 2024, representing a 107% increase year-over-year.
Net premiums written reached $7.002 billion for the month, up 6% from $6.578 billion in October 2024. Net premiums earned totaled $7.078 billion, an 11% increase from $6.387 billion in the prior year period.
Earnings per share available to common shareholders were $1.44, compared to $0.69 in October 2024, also reflecting a 107% increase. The company's combined ratio improved to 89.7 from 94.1 in the same month last year, a decrease of 4.4 percentage points.
Progressive reported pretax net realized gains on securities of $57 million in October 2025, contrasting with losses of $88 million in October 2024.
The insurer's total policies in force grew to 38.4 million as of October 31, 2025, up 12% from 34.4 million policies a year earlier. Personal lines policies increased 12% to 37.2 million, while commercial lines policies rose 5% to 1.2 million.
Within personal lines, direct auto policies grew 16% to 15.8 million, agency auto policies increased 12% to 10.7 million, special lines rose 8% to 7.0 million, and property policies expanded 5% to 3.7 million year-over-year.
Average diluted equivalent common shares outstanding were 588.1 million, essentially unchanged from 587.7 million in October 2024.
