Goldman Sachs analyst George Tong downgraded KinderCare Learning Companies (NYSE: KLC) from Buy to Neutral with a price target of $6.00 (from $20.00).

The analyst comments: "We believe upside in KLC shares will be limited by declining child care center occupancy rates and decelerated revenue growth. Occupancy rates in 2025 are tracking to contract 100-150 bps to 68.5-69.0%. Of note, KLC's occupancy declines are due to myriad local market dynamics rather than a single factor, making remediation efforts likely complex and protracted in nature, in our view. Examples of occupancy headwinds include high teacher turnover and labor competition, low conversion from inquiries to enrollments, ineffective digital marketing, and lack of leadership and training, among other causes. KLC is additionally experiencing elongated sales cycles among private-pay families due to elevated macro uncertainty. Tuition growth is decelerating at KLC, as well, in the context of a mix shift toward government subsidized enrollments, which carry lower net revenue per full-time equivalent compared to private-pay enrollments. KLC's revenue headwinds are being accompanied by margin pressures from negative fixed cost leverage linked to occupancy rate declines. We believe KLC's discounted valuation fairly reflects near-term subdued operating trends in the business."
