loanDepot names founder Anthony Hsieh permanent CEO

July 28, 2025 4:30 PM EDT

loanDepot Inc. (NYSE: LDI) announced that founder and Chairman Anthony Hsieh has been appointed permanent chief executive officer by the board of directors, effective immediately, according to a company statement.

Hsieh has served as interim CEO since Frank Martell's departure on June 4, 2025. The board's decision comes as the mortgage industry faces disruption from artificial intelligence adoption.

"The rapid acceleration of AI and its disruption of established operating models make this a unique moment in time for the Company," said board member Pam Patenaude, who chairs the nominating and governance committee.

Hsieh founded loanDepot in 2010 and grew the business by an average of 38% annually for the first decade. Under his leadership, the company became the second largest retail lender in the nation. In 2017, he introduced the company's proprietary point of sale software, mello.

The new CEO outlined his strategic priorities, stating his focus will be on returning the company to profitability and gaining market share. "My focus is to drive profitable growth and regain the market share that we built in the first 12 years of our Company," Hsieh said.

Hsieh plans to add several executives to his leadership team within the next 90 days. The company intends to implement artificial intelligence capabilities as part of its technology strategy.

loanDepot, licensed in all 50 states, provides mortgage lending and real estate services. The Irvine, California-based company went public and trades on the New York Stock Exchange.
