UL Solutions Inc. (NYSE: ULS) announced a new ECOLOGO certification program for energy and industrial automation equipment, including circuit breakers and safety switches. The certification evaluates products for reduced environmental and human health impacts through science-based standards.
The program assesses products against criteria including materials use of recycled and bio-based content, manufacturing process energy efficiency, health and safety chemical considerations, and product life cycle performance. Products are evaluated according to UL 2711, the Standard for Sustainability of Energy and Industrial Automation Equipment.
"Global industrial equipment manufacturers are exploring how to reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining product performance," said Gitte Schjøtz, executive vice president and chief business operations and innovations officer at UL Solutions.
ECOLOGO certification is a voluntary, multi-attribute, life cycle-based ecolabel that operates across sectors including cleaning products, electronics, personal care and mineral exploration. The program is classified as an International Organization for Standardization Type 1 ecolabel and is part of the Global Ecolabelling Network's GENICES system.
The certification program is recognized by governments, retailers and procurement programs worldwide. UL Solutions operates as a global leader in applied safety science, providing testing, inspection and certification services in more than 110 countries.
