TransCode publishes preclinical data on glioblastoma treatment

TransCode Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: RNAZ) announced the publication of preclinical research data supporting its lead candidate TTX-MC138 for treating glioblastoma multiforme in the Journal of Functional Biomaterials.

The study, conducted in collaboration with Michigan State University, demonstrated that TTX-MC138 was delivered to glioblastoma tumors in mouse models following intravenous injection. The treatment resulted in sustained target engagement within tumors and induced a five-fold increase in apoptotic activity.

Researchers observed a statistically significant increase in survival rates in the aggressive glioblastoma models. The molecular target of TTX-MC138 is microRNA10-b, which is highly expressed in glioblastoma cells and drives tumor survival, growth and invasiveness.

Glioblastoma represents the most aggressive primary brain cancer, with median survival under two years from diagnosis despite current treatments. The research was led by Dr. Anna Moore, Professor and Director of the Precision Health Program at Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine.

The company has completed investigational new drug enabling studies, pharmacokinetics, biodistribution and toxicity studies for TTX-MC138. The formulation has shown safety in Phase 1 clinical trials for patients with non-central nervous system cancers.

TTX-MC138 is currently being evaluated in metastatic disease in a Phase 1a clinical trial. TransCode anticipates beginning a Phase 2a clinical trial in the first half of 2026.

The study results were based on a press release statement from the Boston-based clinical stage company, which focuses on immuno-oncology and RNA therapeutics for treating high risk and advanced cancers.
