TOMI Environmental gains dozen compounding pharmacy clients

TOMI Environmental Solutions (NASDAQ: TOMZ) reported gaining approximately a dozen client partnerships in the compounding pharmacy sector as facilities face increased regulatory oversight and FDA audits.

The Frederick, Maryland-based company provides disinfection and decontamination solutions through its SteraMist product line, which uses ionized hydrogen peroxide technology originally developed under a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency grant.

Compounding pharmacies operate under Sections 503A and 503B of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and must comply with standards including USP 797 for sterile compounding and USP 800 for hazardous drug handling. Section 503B outsourcing facilities face additional current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements.

"The compounding pharmacy industry is at a crossroads where manual cleaning is no longer sufficient to meet modern FDA expectations," said Elissa Shane, chief operating officer at TOMI Environmental Solutions. "Our growth in this sector, particularly among 503B outsourcers, reflects a shift toward automated, validated technology."

The company stated that failed FDA audits or contamination events can result in product recalls and operational shutdowns costing millions in lost revenue and remediation fees.

TOMI Environmental Solutions manufactures products designed for various commercial facilities including hospitals, cruise ships, schools, restaurants, and food processing facilities. The company's Binary Ionization Technology platform uses hydrogen peroxide as its active ingredient to produce a disinfecting aerosol.
