SS Innovations International Inc. (NASDAQ: SSII) announced that a robot-assisted heart procedure was performed across approximately 12,500 miles between Guyana and India, establishing what the company claims as the world's longest-distance robotic telesurgery.
The procedure connected IRCAD India in Indore with Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in Guyana. Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, the company's CEO and a cardiac surgeon, remotely performed a Left Internal Mammary Artery takedown using the SSi MantrAsana tele-surgeon console from Guyana while the patient-side robotic setup operated in India.
The system functioned with a network latency of 290-300 milliseconds during the surgery. The robotic arms and surgical instruments replicated Dr. Srivastava's hand movements from the remote location. Indian surgeons Dr. Lalit Malik, Dr. Ram Shukla, and Dr. Mohit Bhandari supported the procedure locally.
According to the company, this surpassed the previous longest-distance robotic telesurgery, which spanned approximately 6,250 miles between Strasbourg, France and Indore, India, also using the SSi Mantra system. The company states that 22 cardiac telesurgeries have been performed using its SSi Mantra system and that 173 telesurgeries have been completed globally with the platform.
The procedure coincided with the launch of Guyana's National Robotic Surgery Program and the country's 60th Independence anniversary celebrations. Three robotic procedures were performed on the inaugural day.
SS Innovations received regulatory approval for the SSi Mantra from Guyana's Government Analyst-Food and Drug Department in May 2026. The system has regulatory approval in 14 countries, including Colombia, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nepal, Oman, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, and the United Arab Emirates.
The company develops surgical robotic technologies and is headquartered in India. The information is based on a company press release.
