Rockwell Automation Inc. (NYSE: ROK) announced the launch of its ControlLogix 5590 controller on October 7. The Milwaukee-based industrial automation company describes the device as part of its Logix platform designed for manufacturing operations.

The controller includes integrated functional safety capabilities certified to meet global standards, eliminating the need for separate safety models according to the company. Built-in cybersecurity features based on IEC 62443 standards are designed to protect against cyber threats.

The device offers high-speed processing and expanded memory capacity to support applications including process, batch, discrete, motion and robotics operations. The controller works with a unified software suite including Studio 5000 Logix Designer and FactoryTalk Design Studio.

"The ControlLogix 5590 controller isn't just an upgrade, it's a powerhouse engineered for the future of industrial automation," said Dan DeYoung, global vice president and general manager of production design and control at Rockwell Automation.

Craig Resnick, vice president of consulting at ARC Advisory Group, stated that manufacturers require control platforms addressing performance, safety and security requirements without adding operational complexity.

The controller will be demonstrated at Rockwell's Automation Fair event scheduled for November 17-20 in Chicago. FactoryTalk Design Studio will support the ControlLogix 5590 Standard and XT controllers with the release of version 2.03 in November 2025, with support for the Process variant to follow in a future version.

Rockwell Automation employs approximately 27,000 people across more than 100 countries as of fiscal year end 2024.
