Quince Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: QNCX) announced the publication of a population pharmacokinetic modeling study of its Phase 3 drug candidate eDSP in the journal CPT: Pharmacometrics & Systems Pharmacology.
The study analyzed data from 24 healthy adults and 109 pediatric patients with Ataxia-Telangiectasia who received eDSP, which consists of dexamethasone sodium phosphate encapsulated in patients' own red blood cells. The research developed a two-compartment pharmacokinetic model to predict drug exposure over six months.
According to the publication, eDSP maintains sustained release of the corticosteroid for 20 to 30 days following monthly infusion without drug accumulation. The drug achieves peak levels within 0.67 hours after infusion, followed by controlled release over several weeks.
"The data revealed eDSP's ability to maintain low, sustained plasma concentrations of DSP for 20 to 30 days without drug accumulation with the aim of providing efficacy while reducing the risk of toxic corticosteroid-related side effects," said Giovanni Mambrini, Quince's Chief Technology Officer.
The study referenced prior Phase 3 clinical trial data showing eDSP had a favorable safety profile with minimal side effects typically associated with conventional corticosteroid use, such as adrenal suppression or cushingoid features.
Ataxia-Telangiectasia is a rare neurodegenerative disorder affecting approximately 4,600 diagnosed patients in the United States, according to IQVIA data cited by the company. The condition typically manifests before age five and has a median lifespan of 25 to 30 years. No approved treatments currently exist for the disease.
eDSP utilizes Quince's proprietary technology platform that encapsulates drugs into patients' red blood cells through an automated process designed to reduce toxicity while maintaining therapeutic benefits.
