Palo Alto Networks completes Chronosphere acquisition

January 29, 2026 9:15 AM EST

Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ: PANW) announced it has completed its acquisition of Chronosphere, an observability platform company. The cybersecurity company said the deal addresses data visibility challenges in AI-driven operations.

Chronosphere was recognized as a leader in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Observability Platforms. The company provides visibility across digital infrastructure in cloud-native environments.

Palo Alto Networks plans to integrate its Cortex AgentiX platform with Chronosphere's observability technology. The integration aims to enable automated detection and resolution of security and IT issues.

"Enterprises today are looking for fewer vendors, deeper partnerships, and platforms they can rely on for mission-critical security and operations," said Nikesh Arora, chairman and CEO of Palo Alto Networks.

Martin Mao, co-founder and CEO of Chronosphere, will join Palo Alto Networks as senior vice president and general manager of observability. "Joining Palo Alto Networks allows us to bring AI-era observability to a global audience," Mao said.

The Chronosphere Telemetry Pipeline will remain available as a standalone product. According to the company, the pipeline can reduce data volumes by 30% or more and requires 20 times less infrastructure than legacy alternatives.

The acquisition will support Palo Alto Networks' Cortex XSIAM strategy for AI-driven security operations. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed in the press release.

Palo Alto Networks serves more than 70,000 organizations worldwide and provides cybersecurity solutions across network, cloud, security operations and AI segments.
