Palladyne AI subsidiary wins spacecraft development contract

Palladyne AI (NASDAQ: PDYN) announced that its subsidiary GuideTech has secured a contract with Portal Space Systems to support development of maneuverable spacecraft platforms. The agreement marks Palladyne AI's expansion into the space sector.
Under the contract terms, GuideTech will provide navigation, guidance, spacecraft modeling, embedded software, and avionics support. The collaboration aims to support Portal Space Systems' development of spacecraft platforms for civil, defense, and commercial applications.
"This contract represents an important step for Palladyne AI and GuideTech while opening the opportunity to extend our autonomy capabilities into the space domain," said Ben Wolff, president and CEO of Palladyne AI. The executive noted that Portal Space Systems requires rapid decision-making, precision control, and autonomous operations capabilities.
Jeff Thornburg, CEO and CTO of Portal Space Systems, stated that the company has designed spacecraft around autonomous decision-making capabilities. "GuideTech has helped us turn advanced maneuver concepts into executable missions, and the addition of Palladyne AI's autonomy will enable mission decisions that can keep pace with our maneuvers," Thornburg said.
Portal Space Systems develops spacecraft technology for rapid orbital repositioning and transorbital maneuvers. According to the company, GuideTech has supported mission planning for maneuvers that had not been demonstrated previously, as well as flight software development and operational design.
Palladyne AI develops artificial intelligence and autonomous systems for defense and industrial markets. The company's technology operates across air, ground, maritime, and industrial domains. Portal Space Systems emerged from stealth in 2024 and is headquartered in Washington state.
