Nauticus Robotics Inc. (NASDAQ: KITT) announced its Aquanaut Mark 2 underwater vehicle reached a depth of 2,300 meters during qualification testing conducted 240 kilometers off the Louisiana coast.
The Houston-based autonomous subsea robotics company said the untethered vehicle achieved the depth record during testing operations. Daniel Dehart, Nauticus' VP of Field Operations, said the tests provided data on both the Aquanaut vehicle and the company's ToolKITT software, particularly regarding acoustic communication challenges in ultra deep water.
The Aquanaut is a fully electric autonomous underwater vehicle designed to image subsea structures including manifolds, trees and pipelines. The vehicle performs seabed scanning, leak detection, obstacle avoidance and visual inspection without requiring a tether connection to surface vessels.
Nauticus estimates oil and gas customers could reduce costs by 30 to 40 percent using the Aquanaut system compared to traditional tethered operations. The vehicle operates using the company's proprietary ToolKITT software platform.
CEO John Gibson stated that increased untethered operational time strengthens the company's technical position in the market. The company develops autonomous robots for ocean industries and offers services including data collection, analytics and subsea manipulation capabilities.
Nauticus' business model includes robotic system services, vehicle and component sales, and software licensing to commercial and defense sectors. The company is currently testing and certifying vehicles designed to reduce operational costs for subsea infrastructure maintenance.
The information is based on a company press release statement.
